Fruit and veggie smoothies, or juices, have been hitting a high mark in the last few years. You've seen them all over your Insta feed. Heck, we've even been guilty of posting up a few of our concoctions here and there. They're super hashtag-able and deliciously packed with vitamins. What's not to love?
Smoothie bowls are a take your favorite drinkable meal or snack and pour it into a bowl, then top it with some fruits, nuts and seeds. Making a smoothie bowl pretty much turns your smoothie into a sit down meal for one. Enjoy them for breakfast, for brunch or as a side to a bigger meal - they're simple to throw together and you'll get more nutrients from a smoothie using whole fruits and vegetables than you would from a pressed juice. You're also not missing out on the important dietary fiber that helps to balance out all those sugars in the fruit you're adding in.
Basic smoothie bowl prep follows this equation: Vegetables of Choice + Fruits of Choice + Liquid of Choice + Ice + Toppings. Here are a few of our favorite combos, ready in 10 mins or less.
Smoothie Bowl 1 (pictured above): Antioxidant Berry Blend
Handful of Spinach + 1/2 Cup Frozen Strawberries + 1/2 Cup Frozen Raspberries + 1/4 Cup Soaked Raw Cashews - Omit Ice + Top with 1 Tbsp Hemp Seeds, 1 Sliced Strawberry, Crumbled Frozen Raspberries, 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds, and Raw Cashews.
Smoothie Bowl 2: Green Protein Bowl
Handful of Spinach or Kale + 1 Frozen Banana + 1/2 Cup of Greek Yogurt + 1 Tbsp Almond Butter + 3/4 Cup Almond Milk + Top with 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds, 1 Tbsp Flax Seeds, 1/2 Banana and 1/2 Tbsp Unsweetened Coconut Shreds.
Smoothie Bowl 3: Veggie Heavy Superfood Bowl
Handful of Kale + 3-4 Leaves of Romaine + Handful of Spinach + 1/4 Cup Parsley + 1/2 Frozen Banana + 1/2 Cup Frozen + 1 Inch peeled piece of Ginger + Squeeze of 1 Lemon + Coconut Water + Top with Young Coconut Meat or 1 Tbsp Dried Unsweetened Coconut Shreds, Gogi Berries, 1 Tbsp Hemp Seeds, 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds, and 1/2 of 1 Sliced Kiwi.
